¿What are and what they do?
Involves the application of different chemicals on the skin in order to "peel" or exfoliate the outer layers of this. It is used to improve the appearance of sun damaged skin, reduce wrinkles, improve acne scars, or chickenpox, or remove stains and discoloration. Depending on the penetrating power of the chemical is removed more layers of skin.
The peel is a medical procedure that aims at the elimination of layers of the skin producing a renewal of the same from the deeper layers.
Overall, the peel improves skin quality and increases production of collagen and elastin, key components to keep the skin soft, bright and firm.
Also can be used to maintain skin healthy, smooth, bright and free of impurities.
Exist different types of peels?
• From its origin (chemical or physical) there are different substances used, also their concentration and mode of application.
The implementation of each varies depending on the problem, so it is very important medical assessment prior to its implementation.
• There are 3 types of peeling as the depth of its effect:
Superficial Peeling:Tightens pores, softens the scars caused by acne and fine wrinkles. Moreover, it provides uniformity in skin tone and a more youthful and healthy. This type of peel helps control acne, folliculitis and sebaceous secretions, and makes the skin better able to receive any dermatological treatment. Superficial peels are done mainly with alpha-hydroxy acids (glycolic acid), trichloroacetic acid (10-15%), Jessner's solution, Unna's paste and the dry ice.
Peeling Medium: It is indicated in the case of solar aging or toxic because it acts on wrinkles and fine medium-depth and to control the stains caused by the sun. Also used as a precursor or complement to many treatments like microdermabrasion, facelift or fillers. For media peels masks used trichloroacetic acid to 11 and 16% trichloroacetic acid solution from 35% to 50% or a solution of 88% phenol.
Deep Peel:With spectacular results, getting deep peeling action on the superficial wrinkles, medium and deep, remove sun spots and keratoses. It also produces the retraction of the skin, helping to significantly improve the problems of sagging. The most used is the Baker-Gordon solution based on phenol.
Why use them?
As there are different types of peels, there are different uses.
Rejuvenation: They provide the light that the skin loses due to the action of the sun, fatigue and daily stress, or the natural aging process.
Eliminate or decrease the intensity of hyper pigmentation (patches on the skin), and reduce fine wrinkles, thus skin acquires a younger appearance.
Acne: There are certain chemicals that help us eliminate active acne and prevent future outbreaks and blemishes or acne scars.
Hyperpigmentation: The stains are caused by different situations in the skin such as solar or senile lentigines, photoaging or photodamage (sunburn on the skin).
What happens after the peel?
Immediately after you may notice a slight reddening of the skin, in the days following a slight scaling that is yielding to hydration in a few days, appearing a marked improvement in skin appearance is not required to stop doing the normal rhythm of life both professionally and personally.
Are there risks to be peeling?
Speaking of risks or side reactions in peels is to speak of different factors or variants, since the risks range from neglect of the patient by failing to properly follow doctor's orders or the application of peeling by a person not qualified to do so, mainly these two factors is what makes us increase or decrease the side reactions, however there may be certain risks such as spots caused by sun, burns from overuse or inappropriate, bad skin infection in post-peel care, however for safety and convenience in our hospital we have highly qualified personnel for its implementation, and prior to the application he makes a medical assessment to indicate the appropriate treatment is for you and avoid possible complications.
